Valérie Gauthier Umaña
Ph.D. · Assistant Professor · Universidad de los Andes
I am a mathematician and cryptographer at the Systems and Computing Engineering Department of Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá.
My research lies at the intersection of cryptography and coding theory, with particular focus on post-quantum cryptographic systems, code-based cryptography, and the algebraic structures underlying information-theoretic security.
Research Interests
- — Cryptography and post-quantum cryptographic schemes
- — Coding theory and its applications
- — Algebraic geometry codes and combinatorics
- — Code-based and hash-based signature schemes
Background
I hold a doctorate in applied mathematics from Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU), specializing in post-quantum cryptography. Prior to my doctorate, I completed the Erasmus Mundus ALGANT master's program jointly at Université de Bordeaux I and Università degli Studi di Padova, and an undergraduate degree in mathematics at Universidad de los Andes.
Before rejoining Uniandes, I served as Department Head of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at Universidad del Rosario (2016–2021), and held postdoctoral positions at Universidad de los Andes and at the GREYC laboratory (Université de Caen Normandie, France).
